Associate Attorney

CJLF is accepting applications and actively seeking to fill this position.

The Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, based in Sacramento, California, is a nationally recognized pro-law enforcement public-interest, legal and policy organization founded in 1982. CJLF is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Attorney.

The applicant selected for this position will be responsible for:

1) Researching for and writing briefs in the United States Supreme Court and other appellate courts advocating for effective enforcement of the law in criminal cases. Interpreting the Constitution consistently with its original understanding is a major theme of CJLF’s advocacy.

2) Litigating civil cases to enforce the rights of victims of crime as established in Marsy’s Law and other victims’ rights legislation.

3) Advocating for effective law enforcement and victims’ rights in published articles and other media.

This position offers a starting annual salary of $75,000-$100,000. Medical and dental benefits. Retirement benefits after one year. Stimulating and congenial working environment.

Applicants should have a juris doctor degree from an accredited law school in the top 25 percent of their class and be admitted to the bar or awaiting test results. Strong writing skills are required.

Student Internship (continuous)

The Criminal Justice Legal Foundation offers internships for class credit to undergraduate and graduate students interested in careers in criminal justice. Interns assist in postings for the Foundation's blog, www.crimeandconsequences.com, and perform research and drafting for studies and papers which have been utilized by state and federal lawmakers to enact reforms enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement. The Foundation's research program is managed by its award winning Legal Staff and guided by an Academic Review Board of distinguished professors in public policy, government, and economics.

Past research topics have included: federal habeas corpus in death penalty cases, the effectiveness of California's juvenile justice system, and the effect of increased incarceration of habitual criminals on crime rates.
