Realignment is the shifting of thousands of inmates from state prison to county jails. Approved by legislative Democrats and signed by Governor Brown, Realignment made fundamental changes to our prison system and [took] effect on October 1, 2011. (From CA Crime Watch).

Since its inception, property and violent crimes have increased throughout California. Counties have been struggling to deal with overcrowding and probation, and sheriffs are seeing an increase in drugs and fights in county jails--noting Realignment has moved more felons and gang members into their jails, creating a prison-type environment.

CJLF has been monitoring the impact of Realignment on public safety, issuing press releases to inform the public.

On April 23, 2013 the 24th Annual Victims' March on the Capitol was held.
Victims and victims' advocates united on the west steps of the Capitol to remind elected officials of the need for justice. CJLF supporters were there as well, passing out "Repeal AB109" stickers. The Senate Public Safety Committee heard legislation to change AB109. For the most part, the bills were killed at their first committee hearings by party-line votes.
